OSDC offers clubs that meet our general requirement (of being an open source development club) to become affiliated members of OSDC.

Some motivation -- OSDC

The OSDC raises funds and awareness of open source programming groups, clubs and projects. One of our goals is to foster and encourage the cooperation and co-development of these diverse groups. OSDC also raises funds, primarily through the yearly Australian conference's..

By offering groups affiliation with OSDC we allow those groups to take advantage of the infrastructure (technical, marketing and even money) that would otherwise be more difficult. See below.

See also Types.

Some motivation - the club

Why would the club join?

  • Not for profit association protection
    • A volunteer for a not for profit association is protected from personal liability (reference required)
    • Groups larger than X (reference required) need to be affiliated
  • Access to resources
    • Bank account (only with a genuine need)
    • Funds (to be formally requested, e.g. to run a meet up, barcamp/stixcamp, projectors, ...)

The process

email the OSDC chair at <> who will forward the request to the exec committee who will discuss the application and communicate back within 14 calendar days. Provide enough information to persuade OSDC that supporting your application is a good idea

Provide a written statement of the clubs aims and objectives:

  • Outline the structure of the club (e.g. organising committees, meeting frequency and location)
  • Maintain a web site with regularly updated information on the clubs activities and a link to the main OSDC web site (OSDC can host this web site if wanted).
  • Will you want a bank account or expense account? The former means you could have a card, cheque book, internet banking, but is harder to set up. The latter means you send expenses to me for manual processing done once a month.

Responsibilities - OSDC

  • Adopt a motion authorising the club to operate under the auspices of OSDC in pursuit of its stated aims and objectives and in accordance with its advertised structure (see also below)
  • Consider any request from the club for OSDC to authorise or auspice some specific action, particularly with respect to offers of funding contingent on such a level of accounting
  • Promote and nurture the club as appropriate
