OSDC Languages
OSDC does not promote any particular set of programming languages. The first conference focussed a lot on Perl, [[Python?]] and [[PHP?]], but later conferences have also included [[Java?]], [[Groovy?]], Ruby, [[Mono?]] and C. Although open source programming languages have been popular, the requirement for an OSDC talk is:
- That the talk be interesting to open source software developers. Thus while talks about open source systems written in open source languages are encouraged; talks about writing closed source systems in open source languages, and open source systems in closed source languages are welcome so long as the talk will be of interest.

Language Promotion
OSDC accepts that many people program in different languages for various reasons. Some choose their language because it best fits the way they think, others use whatever program best solves the problem at hand, and some remain with the first language they learned. Regardless of the reason, OSDC encourages attendees to discuss their language choice so long as they do not indulge in Language Bashing.
